Eco Friendly birdhouses made out of recycled plastic is sometimes referred to as poly lumber. Poly lumber can be an excellent alternative to traditional wood bird houses because they can last for a long time. Poly lumber is weather resistant, will not fade or crack and comes in a verity of different styles and colors.

SLOTTED BIRDHOUSES

A slotted nest box is a bluebird house that has a opening just under the the roof and the width of the birdhouse. The purpose of the large opening, is to allow bluebirds to escape from the box if a sparrow enters.

TRADITIONAL BLUEBIRD HOUSE

Traditional birdhouses are still made out of wood, either from cedar or pine, with a 1 1/2" diameter entry hole. Most come with a predator guard infront of the entry hole to give added protection to the nestlings. Usually made out of 3/4" wood to help with insolating.

VIEWING WINDOW BIRDHOUSES

A window is placed just on the inside of the door. Preventing young nestlings from falling out, once the door is open. A worry free idea when doing nest checks.

So many more eastern bluebird houses to choose from. Choosing one can be somewhat difficult. Most important is to have the correct entry hole and interior dimension of the birdhouse to accommodate an eastern bluebird.

To set up a bluebird trail. It will require you to set up more than one bluebird house. To avoid territorial denomination, it is a good idea to separate your nest boxes 300' apart.
